  14.     Thank you for trying a copy of our New York Edit programmer's text
  15. editor. We hope that you will find that NYE has enough power to satisfy all 
  16. of your programming needs. You may already be using another shareware
  17. editor, and have given serious consideration to switching; below, we will
  18. outline how ME compares to the most popular shareware editor (QEDIT) and
  19. the most popular commercial text editor (BRIEF).

  21.     New York Edit (NYE for short) is distributed under the shareware
  22. concept. You can evaluate this product for a sufficient amount of time
  23. without pressure; however, if you find that NYE has become an integral part 
  24. of your programming environment, you must register your copy. To register,
  25. fill out the registration form which is in the file REGISTER.DOC, make out
  26. a check for the proper amount (depending on if you want the source code),
  27. and mail it to the Magma Systems address. In return for registering, you
  28. will get certain benefits :

  30.   1) A printed user's manual
  31.   2) The latest version of NYE (without the opening screen).
  32.   3) The compiler for the macro language
  33.   4) Technical support on our BBS
  34.   5) Notification of updates
  35.   6) The option to purchase the source code.
  36.   7) The option to purchase the OS/2 version.

  38.     Registering your copy of any shareware product will benefit both you
  39. the shareware author, and the shareware community in general. By funding
  40. our development efforts, the user will continue to receive a flow of
  41. products which equal or surpass the quality of the more expensive,
  42. commercial products.

  44. LIMITATIONS
  45. -----------

  47.     The version of NYE which you now have is a fully functional copy. It is 
  48. not disabled in any way. However, as an incentive to register, we have not
  49. included the macro compiler. You can run the macros which come with NYE,
  50. but you cannot modify them nor create new macros without the macro
  51. compiler. However, the absence of the macro compiler will not affect the
  52. operation of NYE *in any way*.

  54.     In adition, we have included the documentation for version 1.31 of the
  55. editor, along with update files for both version 2.0 and 2.1. When you
  56. register, you will receive a printed copy of the latest documentation.

  58. FEATURES

  61.     This is the part which you have been waiting for.... NYE has the
  62. following powerful features which aid you in your source code editing :

  64.         Virtual memory allows you to edit files as big as disk. In
  65.                 addition, the editor will swap your current session to disk 
  66.                 to free up more memory for compiles.
  67.  
  68.         Multiple windows - both horizontal and vertical. Windows can be
  69.                 zoomed and resized.

  71.         Powerful C-like macro language allows you to add new commands or
  72.                 to modify existing ones.

  74.         Regular expressions for searching and substitution.

  76.         Line marking (including discontiguous line marking)

  78.         Column block operations

  80.         Run your compiler from within NYE and examine errors interactively

  82.         Capture a DOS session in a window

  86.         Toggle between alternate display modes from within your editing
  87.                 session. NYE allows you to create external drivers which 
  88.                 support different video boards and monitors. NYE lets you
  89.                 toggle between 25 and 43 line modes if you have an EGA.

  91.         Keystroke macros, with the ability to assign a keystroke macro to
  92.         another key and to generate a macro program from the keystrokes.

  94.     The most popular shareware editor, QEDIT (by Sammy Mitchell), does
  95. not have a powerful macro language, does not support virtual memory,
  96. does not have discontiguous line marking, will not capture a DOS session in 
  97. a window, does not have regular expressions, and does not have an OS/2
  98. version yet.

  100.     BRIEF (tm Solution Systems) will not let you toggle video modes from
  101. within a session, will not capture a DOS session in a window, does not have 
  102. discontiguous line marking, does not come with a source code option, has a
  103. LISP-like macro language, and does not have an OS/2 version yet (as of
  104. 10/88).
